Truth or Lies? Why Truth is Your Superpower

Truth in a post-truth world

In the world of business, we often talk about topics like authenticity and success, but topics that are often left out are trust and truth. How do we navigate truth in a post-truth world?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, we are living in a post-truth society — in fact, post-truth was the 2016 word of the year.

Long story short, these days people are putting more trust in their emotions and opinions more than the cold hard facts.

In business, we can’t be doing that. We have to and deserve to know the truth. And, in turn, we deserve to feel confident that those we are working with are telling the truth as well.

Unfortunately, in the world we live in today, everyone wants answers in an instant.

They act on their impulses. They do what makes them feel good instead of doing what IS good. But, if you want to be successful in your business, you can’t live by your impulses. You have to live by truth and trust.

To instill truth and trust in your business, you have to know the facts, and the facts are in your data.

Data will help you make decisions about your business that are rooted in truth.

And, when you know your decisions are rooted in truth you will be more likely to follow through with confidence. And therefore, you will be more likely to experience success.

It sounds cheesy, but it’s true and simple.

Trust the truth and give your data a chance.

  • I really enjoyed this read. I agree 100% we can not ignore data in business. I rely on cold hard data to improve the business social media strategy for my day job and customer feedback is vital. Along with truth I think integrity also 🙂 People rememember those acts of integrity during business transactions. A strong moral compass is a must. Thank you so much for such an interesting read.

    • Thanks for reading and for your comments! In a recent podcast episode, I talked about how difficult truth in business can be given we are in a ‘post-truth’ world. It’s hard to navigate in business when many people are governed by their emotions more than facts or data. My advice is to stay grounded in the data, so you can ride out the waves of emotion – plus, research shows businesses are far more successful when they rely on data. Thanks again! Jen
